Windows 11 latest dev build 22454 bags a couple of new features!

Windows 11 latest dev build 22454 is now available for download. The new features that are included in this release include the ability to use Cortana on your PC, a new “Game Mode” which will help you game without any performance hiccups, and more!

Microsoft published two distinct versions of Windows 11 last week: a developer build with new features and a regular beta build with bug patches. With today’s release, the business has followed the same trend, and we may anticipate further upgrades in the future. Microsoft has seeded the Windows 11 prerelease 22454 version today, which includes a host of new features and changes.

In terms of improvements, the current dev channel release includes a modern right-click context menu for the recycle bin, the ability to pin network shares to fast access in file explorer, and an updated version of the Korean IME. Microsoft also fixes a number of problems with the Windows 11 prerelease version, although it is still not as stable as the beta releases.

The build version of the most recent Windows 11 update is 22454.1000 (rs prerelease). The update is now available for download via the dev channel; before updating your PC, be sure to review the changes, fixes, and known problems, since you won’t be able to go back to the prior version. If you wish to go back to the previous version of Windows, you’ll have to clean install it.

Improvements and Changes

• The new contemporary context menu is now available when right-clicking on the Recycle Bin on the desktop.
• When right-clicking a network share in File Explorer is a program that allows you to see is a program that allows you to see, you can now pin it to Quick Access without having to do anything. More choices should be shown.
• We’ve started rolling out a new version of the Korean IME that includes changes based on input from Windows Insiders. We think that this will provide Korean users on Windows 11 a more dependable input experience. Fixes

• General
  • We addressed the problem that caused Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG)-enabled PCs to run a continuous bugcheck. Build 22454 should now be available on PCs with WDAG enabled.
• Start
  • When you right-click on the Start button (WIN + X), Windows Terminal appears again.
  • The Narrator should now announce the Start launch with greater consistency.
• Taskbar
  • When scanning with item navigation over the Task View button, the Desktops flyout should now dismiss correctly for Narrator users.
  • The preview thumbnails for Desktops were not displaying properly for certain aspect ratios, which was fixed.
  • In certain instances, a rounding problem caused the volume icon tooltip to display the incorrect value.
  • When the flyouts are open, the input indicator, Quick Settings, and notification center icon tooltips will no longer appear behind them.
  • An underlying problem was resolved, resulting in the volume indicator in the Taskbar indicating sound was muted when it wasn’t.
  • After interacting with the Taskbar previews, the Taskbar may get trapped on top of full-screen programs, such as PowerPoint presentations, unexpectedly.
  • When using a contrast theme, taskbar icons should no longer flicker when you mouse over them.
  • Fixed an issue where app icons might sometimes animate onto the Taskbar from a location other than the bottom.
  • The ability to start a new instance of an app by pressing Shift + Clicking on its icon in the Taskbar (for applications that allow multiple instances) has been restored.
  • I worked on resolving an issue where app icons in the Taskbar might get trapped in an alert state even if the program in question was dismissed.
• Input
  • The text candidates were not shown after the first time the handwriting panel was activated, due to a bug.
  • When touching a text field to activate the touch keyboard, the animation no longer stutters.
  • A problem that caused clipboard history to not display for certain users has been fixed.
  • The input indicator’s display of third-party IME icons should now be more accurate.
  • When shifting window focus while using the touch keyboard, an explorer.exe crash may occur.
  • Fixed a problem that caused some games to crash for users who used the prior version of the Japanese IME.
  • The tip for voice typing on the touch keyboard was not linked to the microphone button, which was fixed.
  • Due to the incorrect backdrop color being utilized, the touch keyboard may get into a condition where the key labels would become invisible.
  • Fixed an issue that caused white on white text in the touch keyboard settings flyout on occasion.
  • I worked to fix an issue where engaging with the touch keyboard’s expressive input button may cause the candidate area’s layout to break.
• File Explorer
  • Context menu invocation has been made more reliable.
  • When using File Explorer, a handful of problems that were generating leaks were fixed.
  • When the option to open items with a single click is enabled in File Explorer, the context menu will no longer dismiss instantly.
  • If you use F11 to open File Explorer in full screen mode, then use WIN + Shift + Left/Right to change the screen the window is on, hitting F11 again will not return the window to the original screen.
• Settings
  • When entering into the search box in Settings with some 3rd party IMEs, the candidate window may be displayed elsewhere on-screen (not connected to the search field) and/or characters typed into the search box would not show.
  • We worked to resolve an issue that caused the Windows Insider Program page in Settings to appear blank on occasion.
  • For Arabic and Hebrew display languages, the mouse pointers are no longer invisible under Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
  • Show more categories > System > Storage Other people shouldn’t always claim that something is managed by group policy when it isn’t.
  • In Settings, I’ve included additional links to “Find my device” to assist you learn more about the privacy resources.
  • When focus is established when using a contrast theme, the start and end time selectors under Focus Assist > During these periods are now visible.
  • A crash that may occur while using Sound Settings has been fixed.
  • Fixed a problem with Quick Settings’ volume slider that caused the volume to save at a little different level than what was really set.
• Authentication and Logging In
  • Fixed a problem that may occur when the network icon on the login screen changed states.
• Windowing
  • Close, minimize, and maximize options in the title bar did not display as anticipated in certain applications when the mouse was moved to the top of the screen when the app was maximized, thus this was fixed.
• Other
  • In the Search hover flyout, improved icon rendering for certain apps.
  • For certain languages, a problem with overlapping text in the Share window was fixed.
  • When moving to Task Manager’s Details tab, certain speed improvements were made.
  • If you have the Windows Security app open and you transition to dark mode, the UI components should now react more quickly and the text should not be illegible.
  • When loading a large number of exclusions in the Windows Security app’s Virus and Threat Protection section, a progress indicator will now appear.
  • When utilizing the Accessibility Settings option to raise the font size, some text clipping was fixed in the Windows Security app.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the WM CTLCOLORSTATIC message in certain applications to be ignored, causing colors to display incorrectly in some locations.
  • When the desktop background was changed to a slideshow, a leak occurred, causing performance to degrade over time until explorer.exe was reopened.
  • An problem that caused certain PCs to bugcheck when on modern standby was fixed.
  • After activating Hyper-V and establishing an External V-Switch, a problem affecting slower Wi-Fi speeds was resolved.
  • When system animations are deactivated, UWP applications like Settings or the Feedback Hub should no longer have a fade motion when transitioning from the splash screen to the app content.

NOTE: After general availability on October 5th, some of the improvements found in Insider Preview versions from the active development branch may find their way into maintenance updates for the published version of Windows 11.

Known Issues in Windows 11 Prerelease Build 22454

• General
  • We’re working on a fix for an issue that’s triggering WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR bugchecks on certain Surface Pro Xs.
• Start
  • When using Search from Start or the Taskbar, you may be unable to input text in certain situations. If the problem persists, open the Run dialog box by pressing WIN + R on the keyboard, then shut it.
  • When right-clicking on the Start button (WIN + X), the system is absent.
• Taskbar
  • When switching input methods, the Taskbar will sometimes flicker.
  • We’re looking into an issue in this version where the “display hidden icons” option cuts off app icons in the Taskbar and they aren’t centered when using multiple monitors.
• Search
  • The Search panel may not open after clicking the Search button on the Taskbar. Restart the “Windows Explorer” process and reopen the search panel if this happens.
  • The search panel may look dark, with no information underneath the search field.
• File Explorer
  • When you right-click files in OneDrive locations in File Explorer and linger over items that open sub-menus, such as “Open with,” the context menu may abruptly disappear.
• Widgets
  • It’s possible that the widgets board is empty. You can get around the problem by signing out and then back in again.
  • External displays may show widgets in the incorrect size. If this happens, open the widgets on your primary monitor first, then on your other displays, using touch or the WIN + W shortcut.
• Sandbox in Windows
  • We’re looking into an issue where certain Insiders may not be able to start Windows Sandbox after upgrading to this version.
• Microsoft Store is an online store that sells Microsoft products
  • We’re still working on making the Store’s search results more relevant.
