Living in Florida? These are the Internet Providers for Gaming and Streaming

I have been to Florida twice. Even though I adore the beaches and warm climate, connectivity is a different story – the terrain makes it difficult to build a robust internet infrastructure state-wide. That’s the reason people have limited options when it comes to high-speed internet.

But fret not, because that is exactly why I have sifted through the list of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Florida, and brought only the best ones for you.

If that’s something you’re looking for, then stick around as I’ll walk you through not only the best internet providers in Florida, but also provide a transparent overview of their pros and cons.

Here is How I Reviewed Internet Providers in Florida

Shortlisting only the best ones is a tough job. I gave my best in doing my homework for this content piece.

How, exactly?

First of all, I weighed them on their price-to-speed ratio. If the ratio was way too high, I discarded that internet provider because it simply didn’t provide great value.

After evaluating them for the value for money, I checked their customer support. If it was rated as reliable, I simply put them a bit higher in my list. Then it was the scrapping of customer reviews on the unbiased forums like Reddit and Quora. Actual user reviews are something that can tell the complete story of the internet service provider. I had to read them to get an impartial overview.

Well, that’s how I reviewed them all. Now, let’s get into the providers.

What’s the Perfect Internet Provider in Florida for Streaming and Gaming?

If you want a straight-up answer to this, it would be WOW Internet

So, why have I rated WOW! as the ‘best’ internet provider for Floridians?

The Connection Type

First of all, having a fiber internet connection is a blessing in Florida. I can count the providers who offer fiber internet in Florida on my fingers, and still have some left. And those who do offer it are way too expensive, and they are not the best value for money.

The rest of them rely on the traditional coaxial cables to provide internet. To be honest, a cable internet connection isn’t considered reliable.

On the flip side, WOW! Internet finds a sweet spot, because of a hybrid connection. I am talking about a hybrid of fiber optic cables and coaxial cables. The critical infrastructure is based on fiber cables, and the local area is then covered via coaxial.

Affordability

On top of that, some of the WOW internet plans are purely fiber.

Since the fiber footprint is pretty limited, that’s why I tried to avoid overhype this aspect. You can always put your ZIP code in their availability checker or call WOW customer support of to check what kind of internet plans are available in your area.

Speaking of the plans, I mentioned that I have rated providers based on the value for money.

In the case of WOW! Internet, the lower-tier plans (under 1 Gigabit) are pretty affordable. They offer very competitive pricing for the plans that are fine for most gaming and streaming needs.

When I was there last time, a guy in Florida had the WOW! Internet 600 plan, and he was pretty satisfied with it. If you were wondering about his internet activities, he played Valorant on that connection, streamed 4K movies, and did casual browsing.

Where Does WOW! Need to Improve?

Having said all of that, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, as there are some problems with WOW! as well.

The first problem I diagnosed via Reddit and my own research is that their higher-tier plans are rather costly. WOW! loses the ground of the best value for money with internet plans beyond 1 Gigabit. The price-to-speed ratio swells here, and it doesn’t look good. The second and the last most common problem I found is that its customer support number is unresponsive sometimes.

Well, that’s it for the best internet provider in Florida for gaming and streaming. Now, let me talk about some other options as well.

What’s the Cheapest Internet Service in Florida?

I can’t keep the tradition of straightforward answering because it is a little complicated here. But let me explain.

The flaw is with the question – there is no cheapest service.

However, you can find affordable internet plans from top providers like Xfinity and T-Mobile. I will walk you through them.

Xfinity

With Xfinity, you will have Internet 300, which is their cheapest plan. As for the pricing, it can vary depending on your location and the contract, but you will have to pay around 40 bucks a month for this plan. It offers speeds up to 300Mbps, which is going to be good for most households

Xfinity is adored nationwide for its availability. It is arguably the biggest internet provider in the US, and you will find its footprint in many suburban areas. Its pricing is good value for money, and people are generally satisfied with their service.

The problem is with its contracts. Whenever you subscribe to an internet plan, you will be bound to a contract. In simple words, you can’t switch the provider unless you pay the contract termination fee. That can be annoying for some, but most people are fine staying with their internet provider for 12 months.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

The other cheap internet plan is provided by T-Mobile. Unlike Xfinity (which is a wired internet connection), T-Mobile offers a 5G home internet plan to its customers.

The price of their cheapest internet plan is around $50 a month (again, it can vary). It is a cellular network, so I can’t state the speed, though you can get around 133 Mbps to 415 Mbps depending on the time you are using the internet connection. The good thing is that even though it is a cellular plan, you won’t have to worry about the data limit. There are no data caps.

The things I don’t like are that since it is a cellular network, the weather can affect the performance of the internet connection, so keep that in mind.

Other Internet Providers in Florida

According to the statistics, Florida ranks 7th in the US for average download speeds. That’s not all bad, so there have to be more options. And there are things that I will be walking you through.

AT&T

First up is AT&T. Why do I like this provider in Florida, especially for gaming and streaming?

The best thing about AT&T is that it is one of the few internet providers that offer fiber internet in Florida, which is perfect for gaming and streaming content in 4K. Not only is it available in Florida, but it is also continuously expanding its fiber footprint across the state of Florida.

So, you will likely see more areas being covered by the ultimate fiber internet.

Furthermore, the diversity of internet plans is another thing to like about AT&T Internet. You can choose from the basic plan that comes with a few hundred Mbps of symmetrical speed or the high-tier plan with speeds peaking at 5 Gigabits.

Of course, the plan may vary depending on your ZIP code, so take it with a pinch of salt and check for the availability of the plan in Florida.

Not everything is great about AT&T. The plans are on the higher side because of the fiber connectivity. Fiber infrastructure is expensive, so it is only natural that the pricing of the plans will be higher than counterparts like hybrid connections or cable connections. Not many people can afford it, but if you can, this might be a better choice for your household.

Also, their promotional pricing is pretty complicated. I saw a comment on Reddit where a user was complaining about their promotional pricing. I can’t blame anyone, but you should always stay on the safe side ask questions about the final number on your bill at the end of the month to avoid any hassle later on.

Honorable Mention

Last but not least, I had to mention a provider that is available across the entirety of the state. Florida is one of the biggest states, and not all the providers will be available in all the places except for Starlink.

I know, it’s a satellite internet provider, but satellite internet providers have improved their service in the last few years. Starlink can offer speeds up to 300 Mbps, which is good enough for gaming and HD content streaming.

However, the pricing will be on the higher side because it is satellite internet. Also, satellite internet is prone to bad weather – the service might be affected when a thunderstorm hits Florida.

Well, that’s it for the providers. Now, it is time you evaluate based on the information I have provided. So, do that and make a sound decision before subscribing to any internet plan.
